Jason Cherniak in the Western Standard
The Western Standard, in their May 7 edition, makes the following comment on Cherniak:
And despite the fact that the Western Standard piece exposes him as a ridiculous hack, he can't resist "quoting" them on his site to boost his own ego. Pathetic.
On April 3, Liberal blogger Jason Cherniak, an official with Dion’s leadership campaign, produced an Internet TV ad taking a quote from Stephen Harper out of context in an attempt to portray the prime minister as if he enjoyed the deaths of soldiers in Afghanistan. (It was too much even for Liberal supporters and he took it down.)I pointed this out in a post to his site, and now this, and the Western Standard is quoted in his "Shameless Advertising" section:
"Jason Cherniak...produced an Internet TV ad" - Western StandardNote that he doesn't take issue or dispute the facts of the Western Standard story. All he can do is poke fun at the "Internet TV ad" bit (a Google search for "liberal internet tv" turns up 3.7 million hits, but whatever).
And despite the fact that the Western Standard piece exposes him as a ridiculous hack, he can't resist "quoting" them on his site to boost his own ego. Pathetic.

Thank-you Chris for this on Cherniac's blog.
On Monday, Liberal leader Stephane Dion said the Tories’ silence on the issue was “shocking”...
The way you introduce a few facts over there is a pleasure to read. :)
Chris, you posted on Cherniak's blog.
And since Cherniak's blog is really about Cherniak's political career, Cherniak has the last laugh on you.
You've helped to increase the web traffic of a "shameless" (self-confessed) self-promoter.
Anyway, that's not why I'm posting here on your very excellent blog.
One of your comments on his blog struck me as very good rebuttal. You said:
"It also sounds a lot like Paul Martin. In case you forgot, his 2006 platform included "$30 billion in tax relief while costing a total of $49.8 billion over the next five years. Of that, $39 billion is new spending that had not been previously announced."
And since Cherniak, for reasons only known to himself, doesn't sometimes post the critical comments of commentators, I thought I'd post my praise of your commentary here on your own blog, where I know my remarks will be posted.
Anyway, good luck with future postings on Cherniak's blog. LOL.
Glenn Fitzgerald.
P.S: You have an excellent site!!! And what particularly adds credibility to it is that unlike Cherniak's blog your blog seems to avoid the pathetic attachment to partisan politics.
Also, my email is rogue_pundit@shaw.ca
Well, I was wrong about the non-partisan thing.
You apparently belong to the Blogging Tories aggregate.
Don't you guys realize, whatever party aggregate of blogs you hail from, that the party-partisan stuff discredits your blog and commentary?
I'm far more willing to trust the views of pundits who at least make the attempt to disassociate the logic of their arguments from party bias. So, here are a few thoughts for you to ponder, Cris.
I just wrote a piece on Blogs Canada about Party-affiliated blogs, so you might be interested in that piece, who knows?
Without having viewed a "Blogging Tories," or a "Liblogs" party label, my impression of your blog remained very favorable---that is until I came to the party's partisan label.
By the way, there's a non-partisan aggregate of blogs, where you're excellent commentary can be more fairly judged. Here's the link:

Good luck. Here's the piece I wrote about Party Bloggers:

Glenn Fitzgerald.
Glenn,
Thanks for the compliments. I take your point about hyper-partisan blogging, of which Cherniak's page is obviously the best example (great article).
My only concern about a non-aligned blogroll is that a lot of bloggers (like journalists) who claim to be non-partisan are just hiding their biases.
I vote conservative and I'm honest about it, but I hope my party affiliation doesn't get in the way of my principles or logic (as it does so blatantly with Cherniak).
I disagree with the CPC on many issues, from the GST cuts (excise taxes are more efficient than income taxes), to their position on private health insurance and delivery.
I disagree with the provincial Tories on even more issues (though they've been vague about their promises), starting with their position on the Oak Ridges Moraine.
But I support these parties because they're better than the alternatives, from my perspective.
In any case, I've bookmarked nonpartisans.ca and will be sure to check it out more often.
Thanks again,
Chris
